Gathering Snow
Recently we had the wonderful experience of vacationing for a week in Breckenridge, Colorado. Snow was everywhere with skiers and snowboarders visible on every peak. It was Mardi Gras, and celebration thickened the air as much as the intermittent snow. Outside the window in our breakfast nook a small evergreen gathered the snow, holding it snug and close as it swayed in the wind. Daily I watched the accumulating whiteness and the way the limber branches adjusted to the snow’s weight without dropping any. As I marveled at the buoyancy of the young tree, my own spirits were lifted.

And mine, too, as I got to see that tree and snow with you!

I wish I had been there too!

Nature and books belong to the eyes that see them.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Kathleen, Donna, Cate, Ellen, Ernestine and Tabor : You are remarkable women. Lately I’m at a loss for words. I’m going to take a little break from the impact of absorbing all you are offering. Perhaps it’s a mental spring cleaning. I feel the need to wander my woods and touch bases with a simple day. Please know you are always in my thoughts. You all have my everlasting gratitude for your friendship.

What a beautiful photograph, Kathleen! And, how powerful and life-giving is the mirror that the natural world offers to us. And, what a striking thing for you to notice: that the limb continued to take on more and more snow, without succumbing to the weight. Lovely.
